Nearly 90 experts from 21 countries and the European Union came together for a Joint Working Group Meeting in Helsinki on March 5-7, 2019. This meeting was hosted by Finland’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority of Finland. The three technical working groups made considerable progress in preparation for a series of practical activities planned for 2019, which include: a tabletop exercise, or “walkthrough” of the IPNDV’s 14-steps in the nuclear dismantlement lifecycle; a dismantlement exercise hosted by Germany and France at Forschungszentrum Jülich; and technology demonstrations hosted by Belgium and Canada. Partners also continued refining plans for other outputs from Phase II, which will conclude at the end of this year.
