3D scanners based on laser triangulation can measure the surface geometry of an object with an accuracy of several micrometers. For the process of dismantling a nuclear weapon, 3D identification and authentication can be used to ensure the chain of custody during temporary and long-term storage throughout the dismantlement process. Additionally, 3D surface scanning might be used to detect tampering with a containment.
